Appearance
Compared to others, Nebula looks normal... and yet, to those who know her, they know her appearance is vastly different than what it once was. Over time, all of her prosthetic enhancements were changed to what appear to be organic ones (or some semblance of them). The first to go were her coal black eyes, turned a brilliant lilac. Eventually, the computer hardware was replaced with hair - often styled and while usually black sometimes appearing as blonde.
The slower progress was unseen and only readily apparent in how patchwork blue and deep purple skin, brought together by deep seams, were slowly replaced to that of the light blue known to her people. The only piece of her that remains cybernetic is her left arm and - at least for now - it serves as an important reminder of who she was and what she means (to be rebuilt, reassembled).
While she doesn't usually take on a different appearance and keeps a humanoid look - some say a bird in similar appearance to the Hoatzin may be her. The truth is far more boring and occasionally she may appear in something more reminiscent of her appearance long ago, the exact details forgotten, to those who've recently lost some physical part of themselves.
On extremely rare occasions, she may appear in times of rebuilding efforts not as a bird or herself, but a pale-skinned version. This is because there's not a lot of blue people around - rude! - and she's much too obvious as herself. Sometimes, even she still wants to get her hands dirty and feel like she's really doing something. And, yes, this is just an excuse to use Karen Gillan not in makeup if need be.
Nebula was once filled with anger. It flooded her visions and filled the sky.
Now she is not.
This change is two-fold. First, as she was, Nebula was beginning to find out who she was supposed to be. The personality she had repressed for the sake of survival was beginning to flourish and she was allowed to begin to love and accept love. This doesn't mean it was easy, doesn't mean it went against everything she was taught - but it was her nature. And through the decades turned to centuries, Nebula began to fall into that nature more-and-more. This fact was only helped by the fact that through that time all that pain and tormented she'd endured, the memory of her father, she was able to release - She was able to stop being angry and eventually... able to forget. Rather she meant to or not.
While it was not immediate, Nebula became a more open individual. Already suffering through some memory issues due to her computer mind malfunctioning, she refused to talk about what she thought was missing until it was gone entirely and she forgot entirely. This meant that the reasons why she kept aloof or distrusted others has all but evaporated. Nebula is no longer so wary that she will turn others away and jump straight to clipped remarks.
While she is still no more a social butterfly, she is far more willing to hold everyday conversation and answer more thank frank 'yes' or 'nos'. Afterall, she's long since forgotten what it meant to only speak when spoken to. She has not forgotten some hint of a feeling that she should always get to the point and as a being known for building/rebuilding, she's still not one to waste time. Thus, she remains direct and does not linger past what she thinks is needed.
These days, she's truly learned how to show empathy - especially to those perceived to be weaker (read: not Summoned). She listens more and while she does not always have words, she is far more capable of offering a hand or shoulder to lean on. She is able to be there for others in ways she was never before and instead of a stern, cold presence there's something warm in the way she handles herself.
Which isn't to say Nebula is entirely soft. She can still be quick to reprimand others if she thanks they're endangering themselves or her. She can still criticize things if they're friends and she thinks they can take it - to those closest, she's far more willing to show this more clipped side of her. In the same way, though she's embraced her own nature, she hasn't forgotten the anger that once consumed her. Though it's no longer a constant ebb and reminder of a loss of torment, it's reserved for what she believes is righteous fury - usually, in the reminders of the life she once had and forgotten. In the people who now suffered instead, it goes to their abusers. Or those who'd let it happen.
Overall, as a person, she is a lot more relaxed and has levity. She is not as stiff and serious and can - even - on occasion tease in what is a flirtatious way (think: What if? Heist Nebula). She's more willing to be silly and knows what it is to have fun and embraces her likes/dislikes readily - even if others don't want to hear she dislikes their cooking.
This is a Nebula who's learned to note hate herself for all the things she's done and is truly working to make an impact on making something better. Even if she doesn't precisely remember why that's so important to her in the first place.
Now she is not.

Through the centuries, those who call upon Nebula have had their reasons lost and muddied. In the beginning, it was primarily architects, inventors, and doctors who may call upon her. Seen as a being who could restore what once was she was seen often as a muse for inspiration, a call to help perfect whatever the person was working on at the time.
Over time, her role has not changed but it's seen as far more encompassing. With political upheaval, land disputes, and destructions/moves she was also looked to for swift recovery and new beginnings. She is no patron for travelers or those seeking some great change, but often looked to when things go south. Perhaps a raid from pirates finds loss of life (or limb) or a weather event destroys a home.
As a being, Nebula answers most to the calls who need it most - to the people who are lost and suffering (in all its forms). Or to those who have yet to find themselves, but desperately seek a place to call their own. She is present to those who need to reclaim some piece of themselves - be it mentally, physically, or a place of their own. To these people, perhaps, she represents a desire for freedom and the ability to grab it for oneself.

Initially seen as a patron rehabilitation and recycling, the being known as Nebula was best known to scrappers and do it yourselfers. People who could make anything from nothing more than scraps and have it functional. She was known for ingenuity and perseverance.
As the years went by and she became as she is, she was known as a reconstructionist. At first feared because some of her most known appearances were after violent disputes - people saw her not as a harbinger of doom but as a guide to death. It was only sometime later that the rumors drifted from death to a form of rebirth, as the people she often visited would be reformed in some way. Physically, mostly, and perhaps not always the way they once were - especially in the earlier days.
Nebula has never been seen as a peacekeeper or a healer. Her role is different, even now when so often her position is referred to as some form of rebirth. The citizens know of her wrath and know the sting of it, and what it means to those who earn her ire. She is not called upon by new villages seeking shelter, but by old villages fraught in disaster. Some believe she would rather seem them suffer then act and while - in some fraction it's true they must learn to do for themselves - the truer truth is that she wants them to overcome, to prosper, to build themselves up so they can't be overtaken.
Nebula may now be known as a hands off kind of God, but it wasn't always the case. She was originally known for hard labor and working with your hands. When asked for assistance, she was always there to help put back whatever someone needed with little grievances. It's why she's looked to by hardworking architects and machinists, even now. These days she doesn't play such an active role, but even now people say they see the form of a bird or a pale-skinned woman that sort of looks like the images passed down. While her public image is a mixed bag due to the position of her role - most people don't ever want to call upon such a being - she is not usually seen as negative. Her place is simply a natural turn in life and they'd rather have someone to call to when things get tough than no one at all. She's a symbol of renewal and found things, so she is most honored by those that were lost, rebuilt villages, and found families wherever you are.

No, it is not those that seek her out on purpose for individual needs that get a reaction, but those who struggle and search for inner-strength. In the will to reforge themselves or their places into something new and greater, they may find the cool touch of snow. It's these people who say the current imagery, of a phoenix rising from the ashes is wrong. But then, the imagery was once of a distinctly mechanical hand and will likely change once more.
Symbolized mostly by the phoenix and fire, it's no wonder that the shrine found in Solvunn is that of an eternal flame. Even in far away places, in the occasional inventor/architect corners or places facing some calamity, a fire may be lit. It's said that where there's a fire any words that are spoken with determination and resilience - be they good or evil - may find an answer.

My goals for the event are a mixture of things: One, I would like to be able to help develop longer term CR/consequences of said CR. Two, Nebula is quoted to be the "nicer sister" between her and Gamora. That a lot of who she was got warped because of her position under Thanos, so throughout the years she will slowly evolve into who she could have been. She no longer feels angry at the world is able to embrace and give love. There's still some remnants of that person and it's why she almost exclusively helps those who have been struggling. Thirdly, I could have chosen to give her some new/more godlike/monstrous form but for Nebula this is more interesting. She already hates her body, considers it monstrous [a weapon], and had it taken apart and reassembled as some horrific medley - this will be far more damaging later and open to future CR opportunities to those who want it.
With that in mind.
- Festivals/rituals getting made for the stupidest things. I'd really love to see a joint festival that maybe both characters roll their eyes at now because it was entirely misinterpreted. Like they're not even friends!! Maybe it was an argument. Or maybe someone made some kind of lovers festival because they thought they saw them out fighting for each other Once. Really sink into the absurdity.
- So one element I do want to play with since to me it's such a slowburn is that Nebula is supposed to be able to accept/receive love but she's still learning. Over 800 years, I do want to believe that she's fully been able to embrace it. So some kind of strong relationship that made her be able to do so? And even if there's a falling out it's still amicable, both grew etc. Then maybe an occasional tryst here/there or something more serious. I'm down for anything just not anything that would super back pedal character growth after the event.
- Found family. I've been still trying to work out How to get there but because Nebula is gonna be more of a patron of renewal / rebirth and part of her wants have always been dedicated to family... I think being known to not being a reclusse but having some kind of extensive found family is cute don't @ me. Like yeah she's not always answering prayers but people know she'll always show up for those she's fond of and that includes family.
- While she is mostly known as a positive during dark days, I still want the theme of when she's angry that her wrath is kind of infinite. So she's probably helped destroy a few minds when they've done something that set her off, don't worry about it. Or maybe do worry about it.
- Overall, general/new strengthened CR. Because she will ultimately be a much nicer, relaxed version of herself this is a great time to meet Nebula. Depending on how things go and how people respond, I kind of want to carry over some of this more relaxed/willing to be herself nature. So she'll certainly be a protective individual who may always value hardwork over fun, but she's more relenting into shenanigans and willing to open up.
- Helping others overcome their shortcomings. SO while Nebula will still have anger, I do think since I'm kind of angling to growing past her own problems as a God, she'll be able to better help others through theirs. She's a fierce friend and while she's not always got the answers, willing to hold them back or listen. And overtime, she'll be able to say more. So if you need someone to brink them back from the brink/challenge them etc.
- We have 800 years! Teach her how to have fun! Give her presents [ finally the Doctor's time ]. Help her find a birthday! Take her on a date. Teach her to do nothing for the sake of it. Honestly, I'm here for anything.
With that in mind.

What elements or thematic abilities/magic do you associate with your character?
Over the course of the centuries in Abraxas, Nebula’s managed to come to peace and resolve. She doesn’t hate herself [as much] anymore and she’s learned to truly accept love. So the flame has diminished greatly and what Nebula appears more as is that soft, gentle snow.
This doesn’t mean the flame has vanished entirely, it’s the warmth in her touch and it still carries in righteous fury. Do harm to anyone Nebula calls her own or under her guidance and you’ll forget that she was ever anything but - she may not be as quick to anger, but once she is it lasts [probably for decades].
It should be noted that that soft coolness is not at all machine-like or robotic and because Nebula’s powers/presence often manifests in touch and spoken words she can’t hide it.
(Later she will die).
Are they more likely to rely on weapons than spells?
Her “spells” take the form of her blessing/affliction in varying degrees and are answered/brought upon by emotion and declarative words. Meaning the user and/or herself have to be willing to be honest with themselves.
If they could conjure any weapon, what would it look like? Does it have a specific design or feature?
What are some important lessons they learned in their canon? What about in Abraxas? How have they changed in Abraxas compared to their first arrival? Have they faced any difficult choices? Regrets or incidents that haunt them?
How much does your character's Arcana Sign define them?
“Because she knows them as an adult she can show more empathy”.
That doesn’t mean she fails to criticize at points - she still prefers competency and strength - but it’s for the betterment of the person and their future. Nebula, even now, always strives to ensure those people who need it the most have a place to call their own. Any aspect she’s known for is of that who guards those of the most tormented and lost their way.
If you had to choose a visual representation of one of their Arcanum traits, what would that look like? Is it an animal? A special symbol from their canon?
Given how much being a Guardian means to her and what it represents to her - family (what she sought) it’d be a little easy to say that. But Nebula’s purpose didn’t come in fighting to kill Thanos, finding a family, or being a Guardian. Her purpose was becoming the leader for Knowhere and being able to create the home she never had for others.
So.
“Restoration” from Skyrim - aka a Phoenix rising once more. Fitting because the Guardians symbol is part Ravagers fire (part Nova Corps Star). It also represents her inner fury/anger that’s represented by fire.
Specifically, as her role generates itself around the idea of not creating a home but rebuilding and making a new, both people and places it works in her eternal drive to create a place where anyone can live free of harm.
question
If you made a spell or ability based on your character's Blessing trait, what would it be?
- Bring back a being from the brink of death but in a different form ( if they were human maybe they become a fae or a cat)
- Limb loss recreation
- Restore lost memories, alter memories, or fabricate new ones
- Alter personality and moods
- Restore buildings to as they were in their prime
How about one based on their Affliction trait?
You know how Nebula heals??? Yeah. So imagine if someone invoked help and she was pissed and just made it as painful as possible with all of the limbs breaking and rebreaking and in some cases staying in horrific ways.
Empowering others through their loss and fury
Would they view their powerful influence as a right or a burden? Both?
She does take special interest in those individuals who are pained/lost and have suffered through loss - be it familial or more physical. Because of this she’s become someone who’s sought after in times of great upheaval/tragic loss and invoked in recovery efforts.
She does not view it as a right and after all this time doesn’t fully remember where she’s come from but thinks that they should not look to her at all. But, because they do and because she has the power to help, Nebula can’t stand back and watch when a call [prayer] comes out.
What aspect of your character's Horizon domain speaks to who they are the most? If that part of themselves were to fade or become corrupted, how would that alter their domain or their physical appearance? What about the quality, visual effects, or type of abilities they use?
While she does not fully forsake her home - Rocket and the Avengers being there - she starts to make it more of her own rather than the place she decided she must take mantle on (because yes, she chose to be a Guardian and she chose to lead Knowhere but Nebula’s never truly had a place of her own).
The stars are still present, but the structures in her Horizon are all new and rebuild - technology that feels as much Solvunn as it does to space. It’s more reminiscent of what she thinks Luphom may have been.
Inexplicably, a building is still labeled “Guardians of the Galaxy” but it’s left more as a museum then a place to call home.
In appearance, Nebula is…. Both drastic and not. For those that know her, they know that too much of her body has been replaced by mechanical parts. That the seams that stretch from limb-to-limb are not necessarily organic but the remnants of long gone surgeries and implants. Nebula is already an altered being with so much self-loating -
So why would a guardian who’s role is restoration not slowly become the self she once could have been? Especially as her skills in Abraxas were watered down, overtime her body changes to what it would have been had her father not taken his hand to her. Her skin is no longer patchwork and the purple gone, now it’s seamless blue. Black eyes have turned to lilac. Where she was bald and had computer headware hair know grows (mostly black, sometimes blonde).
The only thing that remains as a reminder of who she once was is the metal arm. Because it’s from a friend, duh.
Although your character is now very powerful, what might their key weakness be? It can be an elemental weakness, ignorance, or something personal.
Thankfully, truly anger isn’t as easy to get to, but it can still be wrought through the influence of those who would control or harm others - especially children.
